Family Promise of Beaufort County
Family Promise is the only shelter in both Beaufort and Jasper Counties. Over 90% of families graduating their program are still in permanent housing after one year. They operate at 1/3 the cost of traditional shelters. They have assisted over 900 individuals, 61% of which were children.

Programs for Exceptional People
If you have experience or are interested in working with adults with intellectual disabilities, or you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back to the community, please apply to volunteer at PEP.
Below you will find available volunteer opportunities:
- Fundraising and Development – Assist staff and board with PEP’s annual gala, annual appeal, and continuous fundraising and development opportunities.
- Music Instructor – Play music interactively with Members and/or give music lessons, either individual or group. A variety of instruments are provided on-site.
- Exercise Instructor – Lead an instructive and interactive exercise class, such as Yoga, Zumba, Jazzercise, or Pilates. Must be able to adapt the class to members’ abilities.
- Class Instructor- Lead an instructive and interactive class for members on a topic of your choice and expertise in the categories of health, safety, financial skills, and life skills.
- Staff Assistant – Assist staff are present at lunchtime with microwaving lunches, helping Members, and cleaning spills. Assist staff also help with buses in the afternoon.
- Day Chaperone – Help your local community by watching over our Members as they go through their day-to-day tasks, or assist on one of our many trips!

UWLC asks volunteers to visit, report, deliberate and evaluate agencies and programs that serve the residents of Beaufort & Jasper counties. The Community Impact Committee and panel members work hand in hand with the staff of the United Way and agencies, making equitable and responsible investment decisions.

Heroes On Horseback
Heroes on Horseback enriches our community and the lives of individuals with special needs by providing equine assisted activities and therapy in an effective, compassionate environment. Whether you are volunteering in the arena, the barn, or the office, there are rules and regulations for every component of our program. It is our policy that volunteers must be at least 14 years old. During your orientation you will be receiving a handbook regarding how we work at Heroes on Horseback. When you volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club of Bluffton, you can make a difference in the lives of youth and give back to our community. Within the first few minutes of walking into the Club, you know you’re in a special place. Filled with the sounds and energy of spirited children and friendly, caring professionals, the Bluffton Club is a fun and hopeful environment.
Whether you help with homework, coach a game, or teach an art project, you’ll have the opportunity to build healthy relationships with young people eager for adult guidance, and have a positive impact on their lives.
