Walk along the path and read the pages of our featured book!
The Beaufort County Library launches their official StoryWalk® project!
A StoryWalk is a way to engage with the pages of a book while enjoying the great outdoors. The green space in front of the Bluffton Branch Library hosts the featured book. A sign with the cover to Hello, Friend, Hola, Amigo greets guests as they enter. Hello, Friend, Hola, Amigo, written by Andrés Salguero and illustrated by Sara Palacios features diverse characters who create special moments together with their favorite instruments. This vibrant bilingual board book is a wonderful way for young minds to appreciate diversity. With musical elements inspired by 123 Andres’s song of the same name, this story encourages children everywhere to share in beautiful celebration.
We are grateful to the Friends of the Bluffton Library, the Town of Bluffton, and the Hilton Head-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce for their partnership and generous support in launching this special project. Our StoryWalks® are an excellent way for children and adults to appreciate the outdoors and read simultaneously. Accessible paths throughout Beaufort County allow readers to walk along and enjoy the pages of our specially chosen story.
What is a Storywalk®?
A StoryWalk® is just what it sounds like: a story you can enjoy while on a walk. Picture book pages with activity prompts are on mounted frames along the path. The Public Library Association describes “A StoryWalk® is literally taking apart a picture book, placing each laminated page in a weather-protected frame, and placing these frames in an outdoor space so that children and families can enjoy books in an outdoor setting.”
They showcase books that are engaging and colorful. The story panels also include activities to complete as well as literacy tips and tools. It focuses on the five practices of singing, talking, reading, writing, and playing.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
