May 9: Art and Environment After Hours! Build a Bog, presenter Carlos Chacon – $15 per person. Learn about the different groups of carnivorous plants present in the Lowcountry and walk away with your own carnivorous plant bog garden. Join Carlos Chacon, the Manager of Natural History at the Coastal Discovery Museum, for this unique opportunity to build your own bog garden. The Lowcountry is home to different groups of plants that have independently evolved carnivorous habits. From tiny sundews, to large pitcher plants, butterworts, aquatic bladderworts, and the unique Venus Fly Trap – hear how these incredible plants defy the odds by outsmarting insects and other prey. Museum will provide clay pot, required soil, and an assortment of carnivorous plants.
5-7 p.m. Appropriate for ages 10 and older (unless otherwise noted in the schedule). Minimum of 6 participants, maximum of 20 for all programs. Only registered paid participants will be admitted into this program. If participants are planning to bring a child, chaperone, spouse, driver, etc. they must also register. At least one adult must accompany each group.
