Off Island Thrift & The Cancer Awareness Thrift & Dollar Store

Few things are as satisfying as finding great deals while supporting a great cause.

“Helping Those Who Need It Most,” all proceeds from Off Island Thrift and The Cancer Awareness Thrift & Dollar Store aid local cancer patients during chemo and radiation. Money raised helps victims pay their bills, provides them with a range of prosthetics, allows them to vacation with their families and, if needed, defrays funeral costs.

After watching her father suffer from cancer, Karen Matthews was inspired to open the non-profit Off Island Thrift in 2000. Seven years later, the resale store moved to its present location on the Bluffton Parkway where hundreds of people check out the inventory each day.

To handle overflow merchandise from Off Island Thrift, Matthews recently leased the former Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Old Town Bluffton to house The Cancer Awareness Thrift & Dollar Store.

In addition to helping those affected by cancer, this 20,500-square-foot facility serves those hurt by the economic downturn with bargain-priced clothing, shoes, accessories, furniture, electronics, housewares and more.

The store offer more than 50,000 pieces of designer clothing priced at $1, televisions range from $10-$29 and it’s difficult to find something marked over $50.

Both locations are open Tuesday through Saturday, store hours vary slightly. Donations and volunteers are desperately needed.
